100% pure oil from Schizochytrium algae, with a high content of biologically active DHA fatty acids.

Nordic DHA Algae Oil has a total omega-3 fatty acid content of as much as 64%, of which 43.2% is DHA and 19.8% is EPA.
DHA and EPA are essential omega-3 fatty acids that can only be sourced from marine sources. As horses are not carnivores, the advantage of Nordic DHA Algae Oil is that the oil is naturally produced by the marine algae Schizochytrium sp. This algae is a single-celled microalgae that offers a vegan and sustainable alternative to fish oil. The algae are grown in controlled facilities, making the oil free from environmental toxins, microplastics and heavy metals.

Nordic DHA Algae Oil provides the horse with essential fatty acids, which may offer several benefits:

  • Supports digestion, skin, coat, hooves, metabolism and the immune system
  • Contains omega-3 in the form of DHA and EPA
  • Reduced inflammation associated with challenges in joints and airways
  • Improved recovery and reduced inflammation after training and performance
  • Lower fluctuations in blood sugar level
  • Improved fatty acid profile in the body
  • Suitable for all horses
  • No added chemicals
  • 100% natural oil from algae
  • Concentrated and bioavailable for maximum absorption and utilisation

The difference between fatty acids
Both omega-3 and omega-6 are referred to as essential fatty acids. This means that the horse cannot produce them itself, but depends on getting them through feeding. Most often, omega-6 is present in the horses diet in ample amounts, while omega-3 content lags behind. The ratio between the two fatty acids is very important, and there should be more omega-3 than omega-6 present in the diet. This is one of the reasons why there is so much focus on omega-3 fatty acids. Nordic DHA Algae Oil has an omega-3 to omega-6 ratio of as much as 9:1. In other words, the product contains 9 times as much omega-3 as omega-6.

Omega-3 is found in three different forms: ALA (alpha-linolenic acid), EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). Most often, the horse will ingest ALA from, for example, fresh grass or linseed products, which in the horses digestion can be partially converted into the biologically active forms EPA and DHA. With Nordic DHA Algae Oil, however, you can provide the horse with biologically active EPA and DHA in higher, more concentrated amounts, which is an advantage, especially in combination with an existing diet that provides the horse with ALA.
